happy new year all !! btw.... genuine question ppl - how the fk do ya get rid of anxiety, i dont have social anxiety now, tink its generalized anxiety :/ starting to piss me off atm. fker keeps coming back.

I really need to get online more- i'm usually only on feckin' facebook! But i is reasonably happy at the mo, apart from starting and losing my job within 3 weeks.... :-( on the plus side i'm living with Shane and lost over half a stone in a month. Hopefully ill be looking a million dollars for my aunts wedding in september. Started the course in the Mater on wednesday too. Hoping that finally gets rid of my anxiety! Hope everyones doing brilliantly!?

Oh and Johnny, How did ya manage to get rid of SA in the first place? Pity it has re-surfaced as general anxiety though. Tough break mate.

My SA isnt getting any better at all. Totally pissing me off. Other than that things are good though.

Still cant decide whether or not to try Paxil. It'd be lovely if it worked, but Im not too enthusiastic about meds. Anyone here ever try it?

PS - They were sold oot of blueberry muffins in the petrol-station this morning. Bloody disaster. A tough moment to handle, but I stayed strong

am...... im not sure how i managed to get over SA tbh ?? i just decided that there was nothing to be afraid of and tried to stay confident about things. knowing other ppl was going through it helped also and i think seen ppl on SPW posting depressing shit made me cop on to myself a bit. i did nt wanna go down that road !! but now...... im fighting something a lot worse, lol. id rather SA over this any day. think its a panic disorder or something. but i had to take valium to help me sleep a few times, never had to use it when i had SA !! i ll be goin for CBT therapy start of march. hopefully that ll help !! i must of been an anti christ in my past life, haha. and been puinished now for it.

Well mate, if ya bet SA then ya can beat this too. Thats the way to look at it. imo

Oh and aye, yer spot on about that SP-World site. jesus, they'd depress you into buying a rope over there. I left socialanxietysupport for the same reason.

Sometimes reading non-stop constant posts about people being unhappy gets too much. Especially if yer down in the dumps yerself. A vicious cycle and all that.

thats the thing though. maybe i thought i beat SA and really did nt, lol ??? its like it stayed dormant for a few months and came back with a bang !! any anxiety issue does suck. it does really help to talk about it with other ppl that are goin through the same thing. but i aint lettin this fker win, not a hope. we only live once, no point living in fear. face ur fears and evetually u ll win!!! hows things goin with you tho ??? have u tried CBT b4 ??? and did ya get ur blueberry muffin dis morning, haha ??

Nah, never tried CBT mate. And totally forgot about the blueberry muffin this morning. I was on the hunt for a Danish this time (the pastry, not a scandanavian)

You missed a good meet-up there a fortnight ago. Myself, Hello22, Shelley and Jhannify and jimmydeansretarted cousin.

It went really well. All met up in Dublin city centre and then went back to my gaff in Dun laoghaire (except for Shelley, the lightweight)

Really good fun. The first 15 minutes are awkward and its so sool after that.

We'll arrange another one, if you wanna come.

Belated Happy New Year everyone! I hope ye are all well!

Anyone know of anything that would help me get to sleep? I need to be able to relax more before i get to bed, it's like my mind is buzzing until 4am. It's getting ridiculous.

I work evening shift, but nearly anyone i've spoken to at work doesn't seem to have any problems with their sleep pattern, so i guess it's just me

I'm not too pushed about sleeping tablets as they can be very addictive but i'm seriously thinking of asking the doctor for Xanax (Alprazolam), as it seems to be one of the few benzodiazepines that is not habit forming (so i'm told?) Just for a few weeks so i get into a routine.

I don't believe any of those Alternative medicines work, bought a load of that stuff before and it was a waste of money, and didnt do a thing for me.
(Plus i can't use herbal medicines cos they can interact adversely with anti-depressants.)

Anyone ever heard if it was good??

I feel terrible, my depression has gotten worse, jes i wish i wasn't born at this point in time. I hate the way i feel and my life is so shit its unreal.

The worst thing is that i have no one to talk to about my real feelings, i feel trapped here. I would love to emigrate or something, and its something i'll do if i don't get over feeling low.

Have an appointment with the psychiatrist tomorrow, who will probably give me valium tablets to keep me quiet, but that's only a temporary measure.

I'm giving up smoking and i hope to give up drink for good in the near future - too depressing for me the next day, not worth it.

But i feel lonely here, ironically i can't talk to my close friends about the way i feel because i have too much pride to do that, and i don't trust anyone.

I wish i could hibernate for a couple of years

Think i have FINALLY gotten over my social anxiety, to the point where i still kinda have it, but it doesn't stop me from doing anything i want to do.
This is down to perserverance and stopping my negative thinking.

On a lighter note i happened to have one of the best nights ever last night, thanks to my positive mentality (and alcohol lol), and i managed for the first time in a year not to have a hangover, staying away from those shots.

Heading out again tonight for another session, but thankfully i won't be using alcohol as a crutch for my SA, just to enjoy myself, and i'll probably only have a few drinks.

I have also started my athletic training again, after years of refusing to go because i hated people watching me run. And i have also giving up smoking on a daily basis, i only smoke when i socialise now, and athletics is something i thought i would never return to due to my SA.

My point is that if i'm able to overcome my depression and SA, then everyone here can, you just need to believe in yourself and find some hobby that interests you (apart from drinking/socialising, as that isnt really going to help SA in the long run)
I still have depression and SA, i just try to block out the negative thinking and focus on being positive, which really has worked for me

glad to hear your doing better im actually doing a lot better myself. my anxiety has ceased for the moment, and im not gettin any panics at all. is it possible that winter causes it, haha ??? be starting CBT wednes. not that i need it now but doing it incase i ll ever need it in the future. im also hoping to start a psych course in september. so........ hopefully things will work out. just gonna remain positive !!

Ya i heard CBT is really good, i was gonna give it a try before as well.

Also i'm buying my new car next month, so i'm really excited about it! I've had my eye on it for a while, but i've been doing alot of overtime at work recently and i've managed to put away enough money to save up for it. Its a 2009 so thnkfully i wont need to NCT it for another 2 years yay

Got my loan approved yesterday....... so i'm collecting my new car on Monday, woohoo! So delighted, can't wait. I'll miss the corsa though, i've had it 4 years, feels like a long term relationship, lol.
But i need something more powerful and sexy now

Thanks Johnny! I felt nervous driving it into work yesterday, i felt like i was a learner all over again! Lovely to drive though, i think i've found a new love of my life.

On a lighter note, i was at the petrol station this evening and a really cute lad came over and started a conversation with me about my car, he was a sound lad. Really liked my car and was asking me all sorts of questions about it 'how many miles to the gallon does it do' etc etc, i hadn't a clue lol.

He asked me for my number, and we've been texting all evening, and i'm off on a date tomorrow night, woohoo! Not expecting much, but its nice to know even with SA someone would be interested.

I haven't had my car a week and its already got me a date, i knew it was a guy magnet hahaha!

I have my flights booked for London and work off confirmed . Now if I can make it to Dublin on a train, hop on the Luas and find that place we met, all for the first time on my own.....the Airport should be okay too, right???

Nice one on the London trip, London's a great place. Very busy place, but its my second home, (I'm London-Irish), so i might be a bit biased!

You'll be fine at the airport, i travelled to Scotland on my own a few weeks ago, and it wasn't too bad at all. Just the security bit gets me anxious, dunno why, but i always feel terrified that they'll take my belongings off me (Irrational fear i know, i don't carry any prohibited items, but i still get nervous)

When are you flying over? Are you meeting freinds over there?

Work bbq this saturday - feeling a bit nervous as its a big event (over 1000 people there) but looking forward to it all the same. The initial 20 minutes there are always awkward for me though
